Server install on Ubuntu Desktop

Postby dalobo » Sun May 08, 2011 3:14 am

OK. I did this once before a long time ago for a test and had it working, but now I can't recall or find how I did it.

I have installed Tomcat servlet engine 6.0 from the Ubuntu Repository and I used apt-get for apache 2.

What are my next steps to install Regain? I can not find jakarta-tomcat anywhere.

The instructions:
"Copy the file regain.war in the tomcat subdirectory webapps. You find it in the downloaded zip-file in the directory regain\runtime\search\webapps. <----------- Yes, but where do I paste it???
Copy the file SearchConfiguration.xml in the tomcat subdirectory conf\regain. You find it in the downloaded zip-file in the directory regain\runtime\search\conf\regain. <--------------- Yes, but where do I paste it?
Change the file SearchConfiguration.xml and specify where the index directory is located, e.g. c:\Program Files\regain\index."

Are of no help. I copied the files, but where the heck am I pasting them????

I need a listing of all the directories I will need and what goes in them. I can then write up a nice how to for the forum, site etc.

I am running Ubuntu 11.04 Desktop in a ESX VM.

Thank you,

Dalobo

To begin with, download tomcat from the apache homepage (http://tomcat.apache.org) (Ubuntu's config of Tomcat is so restrictive that you need some hours to configure it properly.)
Extract this Zip and follow its install instructions.

Then read again the regain instractions:

Copy the file regain.war in the tomcat subdirectory webapps.

Copy the file SearchConfiguration.xml in the tomcat subdirectory conf\regain

:-) If you need more help, feel free to ask.

Hi Benjamin,
sorry to open this old thread.
I am trying to configure this on Ubuntu server 16.04.
The crawler has been installed successfully and it has created an index too.
Tomcat 7 also installed ok.
However, after configuring search, it still responds with "No index present" page.
In the SearchConfiguration.xml how do I specify the directory?
I tried the following, but none of them worked.
<index name="new">
<dir>file:///officedata/regain/crawler/searchindex/new/</dir>
</index>
<index name="new">
<dir>/officedata/regain/crawler/searchindex/new/</dir>
</index>

I can see that the crawler has created the index at /officedata/regain/crawler/searchindex/new/

Many thanks for your kind help.
With regards,
